US Represented

This Week:

Stan Lee died.
I knit a hat of Handmaid-red wool yarn,
$36 a skein,
then ripped it all out when I dropped a stitch.
I learned that 3 billion people live in Extreme Poverty.
Like the rest of America, I watched the video of the bear cub falling
down a mountain–end up getting hurt–when the camera drone got too close,
and stupidly prayed for its deliverance.
Like the rest of America, I watched Paradise burn, over and over again,
48 dead, husks of cars, California Nightmaring
and my God, we almost lost Malibu (Barbie).
“President” Trumpet was angry and Tweeted some stuff.
Melania (Barbie) was angry and had the Deputy NSA fired.
It snowed, and for the first time, my son did not want to go out and play in it.
Like the rest of America, I watched the video of the laughing frat boy throwing a tiny kitten
into the middle of the lake.
“Boys will be boys,” they say.
“The world has too many pussies,” they say.
And on that note, RBG took a fall down stone steps and broke three ribs.
I begin to knit a hat of lumpy, variegated wool
on short, sharp needles.
